New Year, New Blog

Happy (Chinese) New Year! As you may have noticed, we haven’t blogged in, ahem, a while. I have plenty of excuses but I’ll spare you. We did transition to our new blog space here on wordpress which will allow us to categorize our posts. I’m a little embarrassed to say that while I am fairly technologically savvy, I still need my training wheels with blogging. Took me a while just to figure out how to post!

I (Jen) was born in the Chinese Year of the Pig. This being the Year of the Pig, as of last Sunday, I’m looking forward to an intelligent, sensitive year, full of good things to eat!

To start off the new year here at Sunstone, I am recommitting myself to sustainable stewardship of this land we are so lucky to inhabit. Truth be told, with taxes and real estate values sky high here in the Catskills and Mid Hudson Valley, we had considered relocating to a more rural area where we could buy a larger farm (with less rocky soil), and Tree would not have to work “off farm.” However, after much soul and real estate searching, we have decided to stay put. We love it here, and the diversity and spirit of our land is irreplaceable.

As part of my re-dedication (is there a honeymoon involved here?), I want to thank all my customers and friends who make it possible for us to stay on this land. Without you I might be working in a cube somewhere instead of doing what I love. I have enjoyed getting to know you over the phone and via email over the years, and many of you have become friends. Even better is the pleasure I get in sharing the plants and their amazing medicinal properties with you. No matter how much herbal medicine is co-opted or commodified by the mainstream, there is a quality to herbal products that is immediately recognizable when the spirit of the plants is engaged and appreciated.

So from all of us at Sunstone: here’s wishing you a healthy, happy, joy-filled and prosperous year!
